Hi, we’re Nicholas and Charlotte. This blog is intended to follow the self-building of our “little house in the country”, which started with the first shovel, on January 9, 2019! The “madness” consists in designing and building a house of about 93m², with a workshop and a cellar of 24m², and in developing and maintaining a 1000m² plot of land, let’s go!! We will use a maximum of eco-materials and techniques of relatively simple implementation, in a search for “sobriety”, so we chose wood for the structure, straw, cork, cotton wool, wood wool and hemp for insulation, earth and lime for the coatings … In addition, the design also respects the rules of bioclimatism; the result is a passive house, which requires very little energy to heat it, no active cooling (air conditioning), unequalled summer/winter comfort due to the thermo/hygro-regulation capacity of the materials used… We can’t wait to taste it…! Our project is located in the commune of Hérépian, in the Hérault region, at the crossroads between Béziers, St Pons de Thomière and Bédarieux… The village is bordered by the river Orb and the river La Mare, a pretty corner, frankly!
