With the construction of our business building and house, the aim was to use 100% natural materials. However, this turned out to be not entirely feasible because you still want to meet the requirements and laws of today and it is sometimes better. So we ended up with a concrete foundation, lots of wood, wool as insulation, straw for the walls.
Then we will build the roof on the rafters. We have a wooden roof with modified wood.
We have old straw from the barn that has been pressed for the second time. The advantage is that it is certainly dry in this wet summer, another advantage that it is nice and tight. The disadvantage that they were not always nice suits and that they were lead heavy, some up to 30 kilos.
The straw walls are now finished with steel mesh around it and finished by the plasterer.
Inside we have plastered 3 layers of earth, 10 tons. I did the first coat, the second coat Rob and I together and finally Rob did the finishing coat. A nice job for the winter.
