When we wanted to build a house with natural materials, we mainly thought of wood, straw and earth.
During a straw-earth workshop we came into contact with architect Lotte Middelkoop. Together with architect Daan van Schie, the house was designed according to our wishes. The locations of the spaces and the incidence of light, for example, are tailored to our use. I.v.m. for energy consumption, there is most glass on the south and west sides and less glass on the north side.
For the construction we looked for a prefab, timber frame builder. They build the hull wind and watertight, except for the end walls. The prefab frames of the end walls are, under our own management, filled with straw bales and plastered with earth on the inside and lime outside.
The wood construction walls and roof consist of a vapor barrier board on the inside and a vapor open board material on the outside, no foils, wood fiber insulation and finished with earth on the inside.
We want to build airtight and windproof and do a blower door test.
