Building with natural building materials

Natural building materials provide new impetus in sustainable construction . The renewable raw materials wood, straw and clay can be used to create comfortable, modern and safe buildings that are much more environmentally friendly than conventional buildings: Deltagrün, the better eco-balance.
Relieving the climate and storing solar energy

While conventional buildings “consume” significant amounts of fossil raw materials, our buildings contain more plant-stored solar energy at the end of their life than fossil energy was required to create them. Because of the large amount of plant-stored carbon, they remove more climate-damaging carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than is emitted during their construction.
Planning for neighborhood and community

With good architecture we want to enable more community and neighborhood, protect private areas, enable meetings!

Currently

Currently we are planning e.g. the four-storey building group project Querbeet in preparation. The project management is done by planW-GmbH from Lübeck.
Experience

Office founder Dirk Scharmer has been planning particularly environmentally friendly and healthy buildings since 1998. Since 2003 he has been researching and developing building with wood, clay and straw. As a pioneer, he has advanced this construction method in Germany and Europe in terms of building technology and building law and made it acceptable. In 2005, he was the architect of the first three-story straw-insulated apartment building “Strohpolis” in Germany. In 2012, he developed the largest 5-story office building in this construction method in Europe to date (together with the architectural firm oecontur from Verden). The building in Verden/ Aller is now in operation as the North German Center for Sustainable Building (NZNB). In 2015-19, he planned the three-story Speicherbogen building group project in Lüneburg together with arch.tekton.

In addition, numerous other residential buildings in straw-insulated, clay-plastered timber construction have since been built under his direction, quite a few of them in the Sieben Linden ecovillage in the Altmark region.

The European Straw Building Association is an independent European association, devoid of any profit making motive. The object of the Association is to promote and develop the use of straw, as a sustainable way of building in all the senses of the term “sustainable”: renewable, ecological, healthy, energy and climate efficient, social and economic.
The Association is a federation composed of organisations and people particularly concerned with the use of straw in buildings.
