This eco-building was ordered by the Schoonaert bus company for their administrative offices in Saint-Omer. The building is constructed in prefabricated caissons (walls / roof) insulated with bales of barley straw. 60 m3 of straw were used, supplied less than 80 km from the site. The site’s eco-materials are mostly bio-sourced and recyclable; beams, airtight panels, bales of straw, wood fibre, fermacell, compressed raw earth bricks, local poplar batten, wood/aluminium joinery, natural linoleum and ceramic tiles. The building is built according to the German “passivhauss” standard. Heating requirements: 8 kwh / m2.an, heating power < 10 W/m2, PHI certified very high efficiency double flow ventilation, electric air vents, triple glazed windows. Heating consumption is estimated at 150 euros per year for 162 m2. The main heat input is provided by the sun and the occupants. This construction allowed the certification of "passive" housing for the "Chênelet" constructions.
