Beer has been brewed on the site between Knaudtstaße, Werderstraße and Speicherstraße since 1865. Since reunification, the site of the Schwerin brewery Schall & Schwencke has lain fallow. Now the brick buildings and industrial buildings, some of which are 100 years old, are to be given a new look. The administrative and production buildings will become residential and office buildings, medical practices and cultural buildings, a swimming pool and a restaurant. Most of the construction and renovation work will be carried out on existing buildings, using ecological building materials, as is familiar from the Schelfbauhütte. The buildings are to be insulated with building straw in an innovative and future-oriented way, unique in size and height in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The straw comes from the region. 8,000 m³ of sustainable natural insulation material will be used for the approximately 140 residential and commercial units.
