Since then, the S-haus has been used for exhibition purposes and as an office building for research activities.<br>Renewable raw materials were used for the construction &#8212; this reduces the resource consumption of fossil and mineral materials.<br>Compared to a conventional building, the energy consumption is reduced to about one tenth.<br>It is the same with the wall construction: While the production of the straw wall causes an ecological footprint of only 2364 (m2a\/m2 wall), the comparable conventional wall construction with 24915 (m2a\/m2 wall) consumes more than 10 times as much natural land.
